Construction Underway on Rhodes+Brito Designed Chisholm Elementary School in New Smyrna Beach

NEW SMYRNA BEACH / ORLANDO – Construction is now underway of the new Chisholm Elementary School designed by Orlando Architects Rhodes+Brito.

The 94,000 square foot school in the Westside District of New Smyrna Beach will be constructed in two phases to replace the original school built in the 1940s on Ronnoc Lane off of Wayne Ave. and Hwy. A1A.

Ruffin Rhodes, co-founder and partner at Rhodes+Brito Architects, said the first phase of the new Chisholm Elementary will provide 40 new classrooms, media center, a multi-purpose room, skills labs and collaborative technology resource spaces. “One of the 21st century design concepts we implemented is an interior courtyard for security,” Rhodes said.

H.J. High Construction is providing construction management services for the project which will cost approximately $19 million. Phase One of the new school will be completed in May of next year in time for the Fall 2019 school year.

Phase Two, which will get started in May of 2019, includes demolition of the remaining school buildings and construction of one additional building with nine classrooms and a play pavilion.

Rhodes+Brito opened for business in downtown Orlando in 1996 and currently employs a staff of 22 including eight registered architects.
