New Chisholm Elementary Opened this fall in New Smyrna’s Historic Westside with 21st Century Learnin

NEW SMYRNA BEACH – The new $20 million Chisholm Elementary designed by Orlando architects Rhodes+Brito opened this fall at the 21-acre site fronting on Ronnoc Lane in New Smyrna’s Westside District. Approximately 570 students are enrolled.

The 21st century concepts designed by Rhodes+Brito to enhance the learning experience and student interaction are now in full swing for Pre-K through 5th grade students. They include a media center, multi-purpose room, skills labs, collaborative technology resource space and, perhaps the most important, is a highly secure interior courtyard, according to Ruffin Rhodes, co-founder and partner.

The 81,000 square foot school got 40 new classrooms and also among the new design are much needed basics like expansion of parking areas, new bus loop, parent loop, athletic facilities, exterior walkways and canopies, underground utilities, storm water system, landscaping, irrigation and site lighting.

The second phase which got underway last May includes demolition of old school buildings and construction of one additional new building with nine more classrooms and a play pavilion.
